I spent last night reading Dave Levy's FAST BOATS AND FAST TIMES, and enjoyed it a lot. It gives a great "warts and all" account of the early boats and rons out in the Solomons during those first dark days of the war.

Hey Will,

Does the book have any decent PT photos in it?

I remember a good one of four 77' and three early 80' Elcos moored side-by-side, captioned "The PT squadron at its base in Tulagi Harbor" and credited to David Levy, in Donovan's "PT 109." I've always wanted to see a clearer, larger version of that picture to see more detail.

I've never seen the photo of the 59 on the cover of Mr. Levy's book before, so I'm hoping there are more like it inside...

What's the scoop?

DREW;
That is actually Joe Kernall and Ken Prescott's PT 61 on the cover, I have the photo, it is part of a 4-6 photo series. But who really cares, It is a beautiful photo of a beautiful 77' Elco near Tulagi. Mr Levy was one of the originals at Tulagi, the 59 was his boat, and that is what is really important. If you read At Close Quarters, you would think the 59 was Jack Searles' boat. However, Jack will be the first to tell you" My boat(PT 60) was in drydock having the hull repaired from Oct 42-May 43, I borrowed Dave Levy's boat most of the time". Mr. Levy is also not mentioned in the awards section either. Why?
Thanks to him for writing this book, imagine all the books that could have been written about PT's but were not, and now the members have sailed on thier last patrol.
A Bravo Zulu and three cheers to LT. Levy!
Take care,
TED
