I have been lurking around the forum for a number of months throughly enjoying the memories and experiences. I'm a Viet Nam era Carrier sailor that has been modeling for more than 50 years. Had slipped away from modeling over the past 10 years but thanks to a couple of forum members I have been sucked back in a big way. Dave Waples has been a close friend for at least 25 years and between he and Ed I am working on a 1/35 boat.

I began by looking for something I could use to display with the boat and came up with the idea of a representative example of a round of each type and caliber of all the weapons used on a well armed boat. .30 & .45 cal wasn't too difficult then I got into 20mm which was a bit harder to locate. This is where I should have considered a 12 step program - I have been able to find only one mint iinert 37mm round but have 23 various inert 40mm L60 rounds and can't stop myself. Several years ago I found a Mk13 and a depth charge but figured I had to draw the line somewhere.

If anyone ever has an interest, I recently came accross a large weapons dealer that carries 20mm parts, but he claims to have fully operable 20mm mags for $235 each - pricey but if anyone had the desire they are available.

I just want to thank everyone for the hours of enjoyment I've had on the forum and give thanks to each and everyone of you that have served our country. David and I are setting up an interview with a gentleman near here by the name of Lt. Cmdr. George Brooks. It is my understanding he was the of XO Ron 6 out of Tulagi and served his time on the 115 Boat. If anyone has any info or pictures it would be wonderful to share with him

If there is any interest I have some nice color charts a friend put together on .30 - .45. - 20mm - 37mm amd 40mm ammo that he has given me permission to post on the site.

Sure, Jerry, go ahead and post the ammo chart(s).

Any PT-related photos or images are always welcome on the board, in my opinion, and I'm sure it's shared by most everyopne who visits here.

I've been reading about, researching and examining WWII PT boats since I was a kid and JFK was President, and I've learned a ton of fascinating PT information from the veterans, historians, enthusiasts and model-makers who post here.

Thanks, in advance!

JERRY,
JUST TWO QUESTIONS,
ARE YOU MARRIED ?

HOW DID YOU PERSUADE YOUR WIFE THAT YOU NEEDED A MK.XIII
TORPEDO?

Hi Jerry,
Our restored PT boat PT658 in Portland OR is in need of several of those real 20mm magazines, can you let me know where to get them? Thanks Jerry

Here is a picture of the boat from 2006 going 33 knots in the Columbia River outside Portland

Ross,
I think you missed the point - it was my wife who explained to me the difference between "want" and "need" a torpedo. I know she has noticed that once in a while the number of 40mm rounds seems to be increasing but has not made a point out of it - yet. However, I was in contact with another collector that I have a great deal of respect and admiration for - he was able to convince his wife that not only did he "want" three 16" rounds, but that he actually "needed" three 16" rounds. Definitely a man with a silver tongue.
