Hello everyone-
Through this here message board and the threads hearabout, I was put in touch via e-mail to Mr. Randy Finfrock who has the most detailed spreadsheet on the activity of PT Boat RON's 2, 3 & 6 at base Tulagi in the Solomon Islands of the South Pacific. Randy has been kind enough to share this spreadshhet with me. It is truly a masterful piece of research and I cannot say enough about it. Thanks Randy for sharing!
My good friend and PT boat veteran Henry "BRUCE" Hansbury served with RON- 10 on the 169 boat. He has told me many years ago that the 169 was based at Tulagi. After very careful examination of Randy's spread sheet there is nothing showing anything on the 169. Randy's entries only are up to 02/02/43.
Can someone, anyone enlighten me as to just where the RON -10 boats were stationed in the Pacific, especially the 169 boat. I have a very funny feeling that the 169 boat may have never been stationed in Tulagi after all. Mr. Hansbury passed away five years ago! Any information on this topic would be greatly appriciated!

Hi, My memory isn't up to snuff, but I think that Ron 10 did some time at Bougainville.

From At Close Quarters, page 461
.....in the South Pacific, had action at Rendova, Vella Lavella, Treasury, Bougainville, and Green. In the SW Pacific had action at Saidor, in New Guinea, Morotai in the Halmaheras, and Balikpapan, Borneo. Also based for a time at Mios Woendi, New Guinea and Samar, P. I. , but had no action at those bases.

Frank;
Ron 10 baots did pass through Tulagi, but were only there for a short time, mid-May 1943. PT 169 was in the first group of RON 10 boats(PT 164, 166, 168, 169, 170, I did have a photo of this first group on the ship, if I find it I will post it.) shipped from Panama to Noumea. Then up to Tulagi. This group was under Command of LCDR Tom Warfield, the Squadron CO, the second group(PT 165, 167, 171, 172, 173, 174) was under command of the Squadron Exec, LTT. Russel Rome. Tulagi was becoming a staging and training area at this time. It appears that RON's shipped to this area would re-form(after being shipped on seperate ships), train for a week or two, then move up to the Russells, train for a few more weeks, then they went up to Rendova in mid/late July 1943.
Take care,
TED

To Earl, Russel, QM and Ted-
Thanks to all you gentlemen for the input to my post regarding the RON-10 boats at Base Tulagi in the Solomons.
Ted- I sure feel relieved to know that at some point the ole 169 "DID" pass through Tulagi. I guess my good buddy Bruce Hansbury was right on the money! I'd love to see that picture if you can put a finger on it.
Thanks again to everyone!
