Thank You QM, you certainly are correct about MacArthur being a staunch suppoter of the PT BOATS. He really felt that the boats would do well in the shallow waters around the Islands. I had forgotten about the wonderful promotion of the boats in the early stages of the War. The boats were the darlings of the press, and built up as the speed boat with a dynomite punch. I have over 200 original ads all dealing with the PT BOATS, so there is no doubt the boats got plenty of attention. Although the above statements are true, many History Books show little in the way of the PT BOATS and the tremendous job they did during the War............

Hello everybody,
I knew these photos looked very familiar! I posted this same picture last March 2 2008 on this message board in response (page 3) to the thread labeled Info on Paul Stoneback, Ron33 (currently on page 16 of this message board). I posted the picture that we obtained on ebay. Here is a link to that thread. http://www.ptboats.org/cgi-local/sitenetbbs/netboardr.cgi?fid=102&cid=101&tid=629&pg=16&sc=20&x=0
The photo coincides with the other one we have showing who was driving the PT490 aka Little Butch, it was one of our founding members (departed) of Save the PT Boat QMC Al McCready. We have his picture on our website under Photos section and Last Patrol. It seems that he was asked by the boat captain to do the boat handling while General Mac came aboard due to his experience at driving in tricky situations. This I heard from his own account before he passed away. This photo is also famous for being one of the few pictures where the General is not in the front and center of the picture. I also told Ducati that it was fine for him to post these pics on his excellent photo album of Ron33.

By the way another excellent story about RON33 is in Russ Hamacheks book Hot Straight and True about how Al and his boat Captain liberated a narrow gage steam locomotive and then crossed over to the other side of the island and liberated a Phillipine village! It is PT Navy at its best! Take care! Jerry
