Help!
In my cousin's medical records (the only records I received from St. Louis), it was stated under ratings held as QM3c, QM2c, QM1c, CQM(AA) and CQM. The records also stated he was promoted to Chief Petty Officer on 28 Feb 1940. PT30's deck logs from Pearl Harbor stated he was CQM.
My question: Would he always be a CQM on board the PT boats and CPO elsewhere? I realize they are the same pay grade.
I'm confused!
BTW: He was promoted to Ensign on 5 June 1942, Lt Jg on 3 May 1943 and Lt on 1 Jul 1944. At least I found those dates!

Robert;
CQM is Chief Quartermaster which was his job.
CPO is Chief Petty Officer which was his rank.
When your a Chief your a Chief it has never mattered if you were on a PT Boat, Submarine, UDT, Battleship, Seabees,etc.They will be the first to tell you they run the Navy. When your a Chief your a Chief!
Take care,
TED
