Ahoy there.

I noticed in the photo in the PT Boat andTulagi Sign thread that the boat has boxe like sections under the two aftermost engine room vents. I also noticed that the two forward engine rom vents are short like the day-room vent and that they are also on a box like structure. Were these built t his way at t he factory?

I also noticed that the splinter shields aft of the day-room are not there. Were these shields removed from boats prior to getting the radar mast?

Does any one know what number that boat was?

Thanks and cheers from PeterTareBuilder

The boat in the photo you are referring to is PT 115 RON 6. looking at photos, some boats had these splinter shields removed this really had nothing to do with the radar installation, this was probably done so more air could get down into the engineroom. Also you mention the deck vents, this too was an item that changed, from boat to boat, however, most were kept the four at the same hieght. maybe Earl can shed some light on this but I think the vens were at least two peices, vent tube, and vent top or opening. Some RON 29 had theses short ones too, but if you go to Gene Kirklands website, you will see this same shot of 115(which you will see is not cropped, because in the upper portion you can see repair facilities at Tulagi, dock area, boat at pier and repair shack quonset hut, humm?? I wonder if this can be blown up Dick??), but you will also see a shot of PT 116, and she has two really high deck vents, which appear to be higher than the aft gun tub depression rail. What boat do you want to model?
Gene's site is:

Hi Frank.

To be really honest I do not know what number my current 1/32 scale Lindberg PT boat will have. I am leaning towards PT-109 prior to it getting t he tied down 37mm anti-tank gun. That is because I a) want to do an early 80' Elco of the PT-103 to PT-196(?) Class and b) because I have a set of 1/72 scale decals with PT-109 and 109 on them that are actually a perfect size for the 1/32 scale Lindberg PT-109 icncluding the 109 for the pedestal of the 20mm.

Cheers from PeterTareBuilder
