Hi there.
Looking at the image in the Tulagi sign thread I see that the smke generator is positioned longitudanly rather than transversely. Was that position very common on the early 80' Elco boats with the four torpedo tubes as is shown in that image?

PTB,
I believe the fore-and-aft positioned smoke generator was the original fitting on the 77' boats (resting on an angled "ramp"), and the "transverse" position was standard on the 80-footers (until very late-war, when they were positioned on the starboard side aft). Of course, they could be rearranged any way the skipper wanted, as in the photo of PT 115.
Someone else on the board will know more detail about this than I...

ON PT 108 THE SMOKE GENERATOR WAS CENTER AFT IN THE PORT TO STARBOARD POSITION EARL
