Did the squadron commander ride on any specific boat in his squadron or did he actually operate one of the boats.

Squadron Commanders would go out on any boat they choose. For instance, Lt. John Bulkeley, would jump on one boat for a patrol, then as they came in, would jump on another boat going out. They could choose whatever boat in the Squadron as their Flag, and could go out on that boat more then the others, but rode with many of the boys ( if they wanted to ). Who would stop them.................
