Dick...I thought I had a good laugh until your post - then I really let loose!
Hilarious - yet pretty accurate. That looks like a dress or a slip off to the right!

Thanks for that wonderful NOW photo. It looks like it never changed from 1945. You can clearly see the twin towers of the CHURCH. Do you have better photo's of how it looks now. Plus, the color shots really show how the building looked then, although I am sure they may have been updated or painted since then..........

I have a 1988 picture of the area and it looks virtually the same. Even the laundry hanging out the windows of the buildings. I'll find it for you guys.
As many times as I've looked at that shot, I never noticed the bra !!! Thanks for posting Jim, I haven't figured that out yet.

I've been reading this board for sometime now. I find it very educational and informative and at times very hilarious, some of you guys are crazy. In the good sense that is. This "Bra Caper" is outrageous, I've been splitting my side.
You guys have more fun, more informative and aren't afraid to share PT Boat information or your humor. Thanks to it's members, Vets, modelers, and enthusiasts.
Can't wait to see what develops on this caper!

Thanks so much for the great photo's. I can almost see those PT BOATS still nestled in the area. Hey, if you look up at one of the outside porches, I think I see that Bra, Slip, and towel slung over one of the Banisters, drying in the breeze..........

After searching the internet for hours I came up with these interesting photos from WWII and Bastia. The first two are images I transfered to PhotoBucket because of the PT Boat interest.
This first photo shows many PT's nested in the Bastia harbor and after a close look (no, no bras were found) I noticed the long Mark VIII torpedos at the bottom of the photo. Then notice the PT boat in the foreground had the VIII's loaded into their roll-off racks. Further study found three boats with the Thunderbolt gun systems installed on the aft of each boat. See second photo for closer look.

I like that photo a lot Dick - that'd have to be taken in May, June or July of 1944 (based on the Mark VIII's and the Thunderbolt's being in the same photo - they only overlapped for a short while.) I was amazed reading the action reports that Ron 15 was still using Mark VIII's that late in the war - even after the roll off racks were installed. At Close Quarters mentioned using the torp's to attack harbor installations (just aim at the harbor entrance and fire) but PT 209 had them on racks during combat patrols in July.
Michael - great pics! Nuge210 sent me these two photos from his father's collection - the first one from 1988. Steve's note: "The two low buildings, right of center, were the base force buildings."
This other one is a pretty early photo; Steve wrote: "This is a shot of the 216 and two other Ron 15 boats, nested at the far side of the Old Harbor. My Dad said it was the only picture he ever saw of the boats there. You can see where the base force buildings are on the left, and the sunken ship the Germans scuttled in an attempt to block the entrance to the New Harbor, back to the right."
And welcome to Black Ops! I've have a lot of fun on this board because of the sense of humor everyone has. It's a great forum for learning...don't lurk anymore - join in the conversation!
