Hi there.

I hope this is the proper way to do this on this forum.

I have just joined this forum and I would like to introduce myself to you.

I go by PeterTareBuilder because that name reflects a long interest i have had in PT boats. I am in my late fifties and am on a disability.

I have built 2 of the Lindberg 1/32 scale PT-109 kits. Both of these were heavilly modified since I discovered you cannot build a PT-109 with that kit unless you are willing to do a lot of modifying and scratch-building. The first kit was armed with the 2 forward torpedo tubes and 8 scratch-built depth charge racks and depth charges where the 2 rear torpedo tubes were. In addition I added 2 depth charges and racks to the foredeck. An 81mm mortar is also mounted on it. I had scaratch-built a deck mount for a 40mm Bofors gun I scrounged from an old Revell M-42 Duster kit. I use one-half of the twin gun from that kit. I built 2 Bofors and place one on each of the models.

The second kit was much more heavilly modified. I converted all 4 torpedo tubes into roll off torpedos an scratch-built the racks for them. I also built late war mounts for the 20mm Oerlikon and I scratch-built a 37mm auto cannon for the foredeck. This model looked much like the recent Italeri kit as far as arnament does. Bothe these models were radio controlled. The were built close to twenty years ago.

I am currently working on a third 1/32 scale Lindberg PT-109 kit. This one is even more heavilly modified. I am building it as a PT-103 - PT 196 series if early war Elco boat. Lindberg kindly sent me the extra 2 tall engine room vents I required.

I have heavilly modifed the bridge area and added many scratch-built parts to it. I have also modified the chart-room which is getting an interior. SO is the crew day-room. I have scratch-built the rear deck splinter shields and the small cabin over the engine room. I have scribed planking on the deck because I think it looks better with it.

I have asembled the four torpedo tubes in the correct manner. If you follow Lindberg's instructions they would be assembled backwards!

I am nearly ready to start scratch-building the toprpedo mounts and training gear. I did this on t he first kit I built and the tubes can be moved outboard or inboard. I am thinking about gearing these ones so they can beoperated via radio control. This model will be radio controlled also.

I hope to have some one take some photos of my in-progree build so I can share them with you soon.

Cheers from PeterTareBuilder

Welcome! There are some avid model builders here on the site, and they're all very good at sharing their work. We love photographs here, so post them when you can!

Welcome aboard Peter . . . glade to see you made it here – please enjoy.

Peter here, recently received a surprise birthday gift of one of my calendars. He like what he saw and emailed me a very nice note, I found out he was a PT Boat freak like the rest of us and a modeler. So I did the obvious and invited him to join the rest of us.

Please give a big welcome, and make him feel at home.

Peter

Welcome to the message board where PT BOATS are better then Sex ( ok so maybe not, but close ). I noticed you were building the Lindberg Kit, which as you already know is not a very good Kit. I think you would be very pleased with the new Italeri PT BOAT MODEL, which is probably the best plastic model I have ever seen. Now, don't get me wrong, I do not build models for myself. My Exhibit has boats made by some of the wonderful people on this board, although I have been after some of them to make me something and they are too busy.

You will meet some of the best model builders around, right here on this board, so you have come to the right place. Photo's, plans, and other things you need to know about are all right here for the asking. Nice to have you onboard. We hope you like your stay.......

Hi Frank.

I do have the 1/35 scale Italeri PT-596 kit. I was going to radio control it. However, now that I have this fantastic calendar I might just try putting a complete interior into it. I am not sure when I will be starting it.
You are right about this being a wonderful kit. It is actually many models within a model. The 40mm Bofors is a prime example of that.

Cheers from PeterTareBuilder

Hi there.

That calendar is superb! Every image in it is a worl of art worthy of being framed and displayed at the end of the year. If you have an interest in 80' Elcos I highly recommend it.

I am looking forward to getting some photos of my in-progress Lindberg PT-109 kit build to share with all of you. I hope to have t hem soon but it depends on my niece's work schedule. She is going to be taking them for me.

BTW. I am also an modeller of 1/35 scale armour and softskin vehicles. I also really enjoy asembling, modifying and painting figures. I will be modifying the figures from the Lindberg PT boat (I have 2 sets of them) into an eclectic crew suitable for the South Pacific.

I like to know how the crews lived on or near their vehicles and boats. I also try to dedicate my models to those who have gone on.

Cheers from PeterTareBuilder
