My father, Kenneth A. Conley was a radarman aboard the 283 boat. he died 26 May,1983. He never talked much about his Naval service except for funny things that happened. I'm tryng to find out any info I can for my mother and siblings. Anyone have any 283 pictures? I bought the book 'Knights of the Sea' but their is not much info on the 283 in there. I met a few PT men at the June 2007 reunion in Kentucky. We live about 6 miles from the 2007 reunion site.

Do you know how long your dad was on the 283? There is a gentleman who checks in on this board name Kent who's uncle was on the 283 when it was sunk. He was then shuffled to the 282. I'll email him and tell him to come check the board. I also emailed him a crew photo...I see if I can find it again and post it here.
UPDATE: Kent had sent me some of the war diary and action reports from Ron 23, inlcuding the report on the sinking of the 283...I didn't see your dad's name listed as the crew onboard when it was hit by friendly fire 3/17/44. So I'm guessing it was before this...

Good evening Dick great to be welcomed aboard. My original quest is to find out what actually happened to the PT-283. Thats how i found your website. My search continues for the full story and fate of the 283. Thank you newsnerd99 for the picture to share with us all. Dick from what i see it appears the Officer in the middle above is the Captain. Dick look close it appears the Officer on the very left and Officer Breed on the very right have identical hats/insignia. the Officer in the middle has a slightly different shape just above the sun visor like a V. My conclusion Two hats the same are Executive Officer. The Center Officer is the Captain his hat has to be non alike thanks,Scott.
