I am looking for information on a PT 1260. My dad said that this was the boat he was stationed on in WWII. However I cannot find any PT with those numbers. He said it was a sub chaser that protected the big ships. Any information would be helpful.

I doubt he was on a PT Boat, because the number does not match up to any known boat. It sounds as though he might have been on a PC boat which was used as an anti sub craft, escourt duty or coastal patrol. They were large ( about 170 feet). Also, there were PGM's which were built to operte with the PT BOATS, adding extra fire-power. They were found to be too slow to work with the boats. They carried 3 inch 50 dual purpose guns, 40mm and 20mm guns and even 16 rockets. They were found to be successful as escourt duty vessels. Maybe he was on one of these boats.............

Cindy...I was just looking up information on Patrol Craft (PC) because my grandfather, who was in PT's during WWII ended up serving in the reserves in the late 40's and spent some time on a PC.

If the number you provided is correct, and your Dad was on PC-1260, then here's a brief stat sheet on her:

PC-461 Class
Displacement: 284 tons
Length: 173'8"
Beam: 23'
Draft: 10'10"
Speed: 21 knots
Armament: 1 3"/50, 1 40mm, 5 20mm, 2 depth charge throwers (mousetraps), 2 K-guns, 2 depth charge racks
Complement: 65
Diesel engines, 2 screws, 2,280 shaft hp

PC-1260 was commissioned between 42 and 44...the site I found didn't have any detailed info on her other than she served in WWII. You mentioned subchasers...there are SC craft...and it looks like there could have been an SC-1260 as well. Do you remember any more details on the boat?

There is an association for Patrol Craft sailors...similar to what the PT Boat Association does for PT vets, relatives and enthusiasts. They can be found at:

http://ww2pcsa.org

There are photos of the different types of PC's...maybe you can match one with anything you know about the 1260. Good luck!

Curiously, PCs and SCs were numbered in sequence, so there was no SC1260. He was probably on PC1260, then.

I love ships... er boats like these. They have great character. Iron Shipwright manufacturers a nice 1/350 resin kit of a Patrol Craft. Here's their link...
