Ted

Certainly not found of the Zebra colored boats. A perfectly good way to ruin a wonderful looking Elco 80 Footer. Thanks for sharing the pictures. Can you imagine having to touch up one of those boats. It would be in dry dock fo a month. No disrespect to you modelers out there that have made these, because the job you have done is awesome. I just do not like what they did to them.

Hiya Ted-

From the bnottom of my PT model loving heart, I want to say thank you for posting those BEAUTIFUL shots of the RON 10 boats in zebra stripes.

I sure wish I had these shots when I was modeling the 169 in 1/32 scale! The painting process is a bear but well worth the effort. I know of one other modeler on this here board who modeled a RON 10 boat and thats Muddy Fields. He did a fantastic job with that model.

There still are a lot of us who still smile when we see a RON 10 boat in Zebra Stripes. I think the overall concept was kind of neat with the measure pattern.

A long time ago I posed a question on the old board concerning the zebra stripe pattern and if it was a failure or a success. I received a lot of responce to that question from a lot of veterans and it was split right down the middle! But one responce was a winner! This one veteran wrote to me and told me,"HELL YES it was a success! Those stripes confused the heck out of the Japanese. They couldn't figure out our length, which direction we were headed or how fast we were going!!"
On the down side as Frank A mentioned was the problem of touch up on a zebra stripe paint job. One other veteran wrote to tell me that when their boat can in shot up to all hell a dozen mops were requistioned with a 55 gallon drum of olive drab paint and the whole boat was then repainted. Perhaps this is why so many of the RON 10 boats are seen in both zebra stripe and OD green.

Thanks again for the great pictures Ted! You really made my day and then some!

I'm with Frank (Andruss)...that horrible paint job really DOES ruin the looks of those beautiful 80' Elcos, but I guess that was (sort of) the idea.

At least they looked a little better when they overpainted the white stripes with green.

Hi
I just love the scheme as being something totally different from the plain colours or the green camo schemes.
But I have to admit that I wouldn't have wanted to be responsible for painting 1 for real must have been a nightmare of a job. Glad I made my model before you added these pictures as I would have been stuck for choice.
Still thinking of building another elco in a tamer scheme this time.
Great Pictures
