Thanks for the pictures Frank. Indeed Patty Thomas was very popular with all the P.T. Boat crowd. A lot of whistles when she took the stage. She had the body to go with her looks. Mike, I do remember the guitar players name was Tony Romero.

While were on the subject of entertainers and actors in the war zone, I know John Wayne made a couple of these trips, I think one was also with Frances Langford, has anybody a photo of him at the wheel of an Elco PT, I have seen a phot of him on one, which I believe might have been a RON 11 or RON 12 boat.
Also, has anyone seen a photo of Lt jg. Robert Montgomery on a RON 5 boat( I never have) prior to them shipping out. I believe he at one time was Exec on George Cookman's PT 107. I know he went with the squadron as far south as Miami, I don't know if he made it to Panama, but I have also seen it written in one book that he made it as far as the Solomons, is this so? I find this hard to believe. Anybody have any ideas.
Take care,

I found some info on the Hope USO Tour 1944 to the Islands - related to th Frank's photos above:
World War II photos of Bob Hope and Company
In the summer of 1944 Bob Hope hopped from island to island in the South Pacific to entertain the troops. It was an emotional, as well as dangerous, journey for Hope and his colleagues. He logged over 30,000 miles and gave more than 150 performances. Accompanying Hope on the trip were guitarist Tony Romano, singer Frances Langford, dancer Patty Thomas, and gag-writer and Hope chum, Barney Dean.

Earl;
Not John Wayne, we know he was never in the service, because they turned him down saying he could do more for the war effort making movies. I was really looking for a photo of him having just a turn at the wheel during a uso tour or something. Somewhere out in the Pacific, I know Wayne went to New Guinea with a USO tour in 1944.
But LTjg Robert Montgomery, I know he was in RON 5 from July-Sept 1942 on PT 107 with George Cookman. Then my mistake, he accompanied CDR Warfield, LT. Charles Mills, and LTjg Jack Searles when they brought then RON 4 boats PT 59, 60, and 61 down to RON 2 and 3(2) in Panama from Melville. But in Miami the were tied up to the pier and the boats were swamped by fans(females) of his trying to get photos and autographs. He locked himself below decks saying he just wanted to be left alone. I have never seen any photos of Robert Montgomery on any boat and this is what I am really looking for.
Thanks and take care,

Of all the photo's I have of Wayne and Montgomery, none show them in the War Zone. I have a shot of Montgomery at Bayonne, New Jersey on a visit to the plant when he came home stateside, and several of him in uniform in other places.
Certainly Montgomery could pilot a PT BOAT because he did his own manuvers in the Movie THEY WERE EXPENDABLE, but I never heard much about him in th War Zone. Many photo's exsist of the two on an Elco during the Movie, but I really don't remember any others over-seas. As a matter of fact, I never even knew John Wayne toured at all in the War Zone because of his status over here selling WAR BONDS, and making movies which went to the troops.
