Guys:
Want to rebuild a real one? I just got off the phone with Ken Prescott(Last Skipper of 48 in the zone),
and I have formed a purchase plan with the help of Kim Nielsen of the Navy Museum in D.C. However, I still don't have a designated Museum, because my museum of choice, The Navy Musuem in D.C. has had most of their funding pulled because of the war on terrorism. If you are interested contact me at me E-mail address.
Take care,
TED

Guys;
I am afraid it is going to be a weird ride until the end. Honestly, I know where I want to go with this, but I do not know where this is going to go.As I said before funding is a major problem for major Navy museums. However, the curator in D.C. has been in constant contact with me and he was the one who headed up the inspection of PT 48, he has pointed me in this direction, he suggests I approach "Save Our National Treasures" for funding. Because the funding submittals for "Save Our National Treasures" ends on May 28th. I am using my Life of a Mosquito Boat" which is my version of the life of PT 48, and a copy of the deck log for documentation to substantiate my position.
If you have any ideas please send them.
Thanks,
TED

I am based in Virginia Beach. I am writing up a proposal for "Save Our National Treasures" for funding. if this is accepted we will proceed from there. Because of the situations going on today, I have to plan this in small stages. First is to get the $$$. I have no museum in mind now that the Naval Musuem in D.C. has had all their funding removed. As of this date, I also have no building to put the boat in for work, but since this is such a large area for USN, I am not too worried about this. I refuse to let that boat rot away. I have been after her since 1994.
Take care,
TED

From a Historical view, finding a boat such as this is price-less. Not much out there on the 77 footers. A project of this magnitude requires so much and the person to speak with would be JERRY GILMARTIN. Those boys have lived the dream anfd followed it thru to completion.

What are the details Ted. Is there an asking price on this boat? Is it free of charge? How about a few more details. I would love to see some pictures of what she looks like for sure. As I said before, you can raise millions for an artsy-fartsy building, but try aasking for money to re-do a PT BOAT. I certainly do not want to sound negative, but I am be realistic. Not many folks know what a PT BOAT is, let alone will give money to rebuild one. God as my witness, if I had the large amount of money for a project like this I would spend it, because it has always been my dream to opwn a boat. I guess I will have to settle on an engine.

Aw Come On Ted,

Just a 77 footer?

Why don't you explain to everyone that PT-48 is the only existing 77' Elco. of Ron 3 (2) that just happens to be a combat veteran that fought the Tokyo Express during the Guadalcanal Campaign. And she was pulled off a reef by PT-109.

You' need to blow the 48's horn.
