This is the crew of PT154. My father, Lt. Hamlin Smith, j.g is the person standing in the upper right in his dress whites. This picture was taken during the period prior to November 1943 as that is the date when several of these people were killed because of a shore battery hit to the air tank on one of their torpedoes off Shortland Island (in the Solomons).

Does anyone have crew information for PT 154? My father is still alive at 89.

I know each person in the picture as I am an original member of the crew that left from Brooklyn Navy Yard in Dec. 1942. I don't know who else is around but I don't think there are too many of us. I don't know if I am still registered with this membership board but let us see what happens.

Hi Nathaniel,
Apparently I am still registered with this message board and I am now using the correct ID and password. I have not checked this website too often because I never seemed to see or hear from anyone who was in the early squadrons like Ron 9. I consider it an early squadron. What would you like to talk about or what would you like to know. I can recall every one on the picture that you posted because I served with them from Dec 1942 until Nov 1943. That is when the some of the crew sort of dropped out. I am Pat Rogers, Radioman, and I am kneeling just above Bill Nicholson in the picture.

I was an original member of PT154. I would be interested in receiving any pictures that you may have.
Thank you,
Pat Rogers, Radioman

Hello Pat

Welcome to our message board. It is always an honor to meet those who served on PT Boats, Bases, or Tenders. If you could, can you name those in the photograph and tell us of your experiences. We would love to hear about your days served on the boats. You can also reach me at mosquitofleet@comcast.net

Pat,

I am honored to hear from you.

My email address is: nat@nathanielsmith.com. I am the son of the skipper, Hamlin Smith. My dad is still alive at 89 years old and he lives in Rhode Island. I have a lot of information and a dozen or so pictures of PT154. Send me your email address and we can communicate. I have many questions but I also just want to hear from you as to what you remember. Can you start me off with a left to right top to bottom of the crew picture.

You served until November 1943. That is when the boat was hit by a shore battery. Were you alright? What do you remember about that night?

I can send you pictures by email or regular mail.

Nat

If you wouldn't mind sharing your stories with the rest of us I'm sure we'd all be grateful.

That's a great picture. Can you tell me about that rouned disc on the chart house in front of the starboard turret?

Thank you.
Dave
