Here we go again - Set #2. This will be my personel collection of the early Ron 2 Squadron Photo's. Elco Engineer John C. Kenney, who rode the boats and donated these photo's to my Exhibit.

#69 PT's 15, 10 and 19 rest in Miami Florida before their long journey.

#71 PT's 17 & 18 getting things ready for their long trip.

#72 One by one the boats will clear the Harbor. They begin the jouney.

#73 PT 18, takes up her position and begins the jouney.

#74 PT 14 rides the waves off the Miami Coast. Photo taken from PT 18.

Frank;
Once again great photos. One thing is the 70 foot boats were well documented. do you have any photos of PT 15 underway? This was Ens. Jack Searles boat for this run.
Also do you have any PTCRON 1 photos? I would like to see a really nice photo of PTC 5 which I believe was Ens. Robert R. Green. He stayed back as Admin CO of PTCRON1 while LT. John Bulkeley and Ens. Robert B. Kelly brought PTC 1-4 down to Miami/Key West/Dry Tortugas.
Take care,
TED

Ted

I have more to post on the 70 footers, but I do not believe I have PT 15 underway. I do however have a nice shot of PT 15 docked with 6 men near cockpit. I have PT 14 underway as she races out to help the stricken PT 11, with Tow Lines. Nothing on PTC's that I can think of right now.

I found this one of the 1, 5, 61, and 3 at http://www.lavidaocean.com/elco/, not sure of the location or if it's been posted before but I liked the mix of early boats:

Jeff,

That photo was originally on my website--unfortunately the owner of this blog didn't bother to ask me if he could use it...

Shoot, sorry about that Gene. My face is currently a bright cherry red. Do you want me to remove and replace with a link to your site?

Sure, Jeff...and don't bother being embarrassed--not your fault.

I think I'm going to have to run a disclaimer on my front page: "You wanna use something for your own page? Just ask me, please... :-)

While I'm on the subject of that photo, a little explanation is in order. That photo was taken on August 1, 1942 during the establishment of the Taboga Island Motor Torpedo Boat base. The boats pictured are all 77-foot Elcos, some of Squadron Two and some of the newly-restablished Squadron Three. The numbers 1, 2, 3, and 5 were painted on the boats to mislead Japanese spies. A fuller explanation can be found here:

http://www.geocities.com/pt_king/Mysteryboats.html

As to whch boats those truly are in the photo:

#1: PT 46
#2: PT 45
#3: PT 48
#5: PT 37
