OK GUYS, I HAVE A QUESTION THAT I HOPE YOU HAVE AN ANSWER FOR!

I COULD SWEAR THAT I HAVE SEEN PICTURES OF QUONSET HUTS WITH THE CORAGATION RUNNING THE "LENGTH" OF THE BUILDING RATHER THAN UP AND OVER IN SECTIONS. AM I CORRECT OR IS THE PICTURE POSTED OF THE QUONSETS AT MELVILLE THE CORRECT WAY THAT THEY WERE CONSTRUCTED.

WHILE I'M ON THE SUBJECT, IS THERE A "STANDARD" SIZE TO A QUONSET HUT?

THANKS FOR THE HELP IN ADVANCE, GUYS!

Hi Frank,

The third version of the quonset hut (boy have I learned a lot about Quonsets) did away with the wall and went back to the half circle, the corrugated siding ran parallel to the ground. They did this because the sheets could be shipped flat. Prior to that, the corrugated sheets were factory curled to fit along the ribs. Which took up more shipping room.

The standard size of huts were:

Originals 16 x 36 feet with an 8 foot arch.

Quonset Redesigns 16 x 36 feet

Third design 20 x 48.

There was also two larger sizes: 24 x 60 clasroom huts and 26 x 40 mess hall hut.

And the really big size were 40 x 100. The six warehousse buildings at MTBSTC along the pierside (5 of them are still there) were the first design of the 40 x 100 warehouses, but they wer repaced by the 40 x 100 Quonset (half circle design).

Ahoy there Charlie-

Hey, thanks a lot for the detailed input on the quonset huts. I guess you "did" learn a lot about them after all!

Thanks again!
