MORE MELVILLE PHOTO'S from Frank Andruss:
#40. This picture taken in September 1944, shows trainees working on Life Raft. Not sure what is happening on the Bow. Sailor has a cylinder, the other an Ax.
#41. PT 486 at the Quay Wall. This boat would later become a sightseeing boat in Wildwood, NJ.
#42. Trainees in 1944 getting first hand look at the 50 caliber workings. Wish I had this set up in my Exhibit.
#43. One of the Mess Halls at Melville shows the boys with a hardy appetite. Taken in the Fall of 1943.
#44. Trainees learning the inner workings of the 40MM Bofors Cannon. Taken in the summer of 1944.

I wonder how hard it would be to recreate that 50 caliber training mount used at melville. That would make a great display would it not?

Another look at Melville is upcoming, thanks to Dick who after I scan the photo's puts them on this site. My special thanks to him for all he does for this message board and for helping all of us. Also a nice welcome to Charlie who is working hard to create a book on Melville. I will be in line for that one.
