Hello, everyone. I am new to this site, and need HELP with my 1/35th scale PT 596. After reading Bulkley's great book, "At Close Quarters", I became even more enamored with those sleak 80 ft. Elcos. In fact, after reading "At Close Quarters",I couldn't get my mind off of Ron 21.
Ron 21, and it's collection of brawny athletes seemed to fit those fast, well-armed, and nasty PT's. Two of its officers were recruited from my university, so I was doubly interested.
Now, to my problem. PT 328 has been photographed loaded with all of the late-war weapons and football radar to boot! That camouflage is exactly what I was looking for as well. The problem that I see is that PT 328 doesn't appear to have the forward-slant on their two 50 cal tubs, as the later Elco's did, and as PT 596 does. What do I do to convert PT 596 to (late) PT 328? I used to model a long time ago, and have built two Revell PT 109's. Recently, I just seem to "collect" kits and their accessories. Since I am a member of the American Society of Aviation Artists, I try to make aviation kits for necessary references, but have yet to build ANYTHING that resembles a realistic, top knotch model. I know, "Welcome to the club".
I'm going to sign off and watch the second half of my Big East play-off game, and hope that the Irish prevail, as always.

Hello,
Tilted turrets on the 80 footers began with PT-372 and continued on all 80 footers till the end of the war. PT- 328 would have had the same turret configuration as the Revell PT-109 kit. The majority of your changes would take place at the charthouse. If you go back about 9 posts a gentleman known to this message board as muddyfields converted his Italeri 596 kit into the early series 80 footer PT-174 and made an outstanding model of it. His Charthouse and Day room conversion would apply to the 328.
Hope this helps,

Thanks to you, Jeff, and Wayne, also. I am always amazed when I attempt to research a project that takes me back to WWII. Details, details, details . . . This is the first one that I've atempted with something that floats, though.
I just hope that I can get it right, and that I don't "sink" with my boat.
Regards;
Joe
