Frank;
Is the RON 2 Flag in your collection white flag with red number or white flag with blue number?
Thanks,

Hello Ted:
The Flag is white with blue border and blue numeral. It was donated by JOHN C. KENNEY, who was an ELCO ENGINEER riding the early RON 2 70 Footers in Miami Florida to Cuba and back. I am very lucky that this is in my Exhibit and I thank the Westholm Family and the Kenney Family for making this happen.

Frank;
I have always been confused by this. I know that RON 1- RON 3(2) used blue numbers on a white backround( but in todays Navy this represents Fleet/Battle group Commanders, Usually RADM or high ranking CAPT, which are usually called Comodores), but i remember when visting PTHQ, that the RON 27 flag had red numbers on a white backround(this today is Flottilla or Squadron). When did it change? i have seen many B/w Photos but it does not deferentiate between blue and red. Any Ideas????
Take care,
TED

Ted, from what I remember, the Broad Command Pennant, which is what I have in my Exhibit, is flown in Lieu of the Commission Pennant by Commanders of Squadrons. This is the White Flag with Blue border and number in the center ( also Blue ). The White Flag with the red border and red number in the center is called the Burgee Command Pennant. This is the same as the Broad Pennant but flown by Commanders of Divisions of Ships, or craft such as PT BOATS. I am not sure when things changed after WWII........
