I'm thinking about building another boat using the 1/72 Revell kit and am looking for a subject that documented enough to get a good build.

A few boats come to mind:
137 (cover of Squadron book) any data as to weapons and paint?
337 (photos in Johnson's book show both with tubes and racks.
169
114
115

I'm interested in data and photos of boats as outfitted when they actually were in combat and earlier in the war is better than later though 137 in Oct '44 or earlier is OK.

Ideally, a '43 or early '44 boat, sub-378 structure with 20mm or 40mm on stern, SO radar, tubes or racks, 37mm on bow, additional 20mm(s) on bow OK or not, additional .50s or .30s are fine and reasonable guess, if not proof, of paint scheme and general color for the period. I know a lot of early boats ended up with the 31/20L toward the end of the war but i want earlier schemes carried by the boats.

Any suggestions and links to data or photos.

Thanks,
Ed

How abour the 156 Boat with a quad .50 AA Turret on the stern, and lots of 20mm, dual .50, and a 37mm on the bow? Wayne Traxel is getting ready to update his drawing.

I think what would so awesome is somethng that I have not seen before, yet what the PT Boats were built for. A torpedo attack on a Capital Ship, or a night time run on a group of barges. Now, this could get pretty large, so if you kept it to 1/72 scale, it would be just right. Not sure if you can purchase a 1/72 scale Japanese Destroyer or not,or for that matter any type barge. I could just see this in my mind. Here comes our beloved PT Boat out of the darkness, stalking this large Japanese Tin Can. Torpedoes ready as she moves in to about 800 yards. She has not been seen yet, so all is perfect. All of a sudden, FIRE ONE!! rings out and the first MK-8 leaps from the tube, on its way to the target. You could make it so the torpedo is suspended from the tube, or have it just hitting the water, rear fins sticking out.

I think it would be a real fun project. Have you guys ever seen this done before in your travels? I guess I have a one track mind lately. All I can think about is PT Boat Diorama's.

I dunno, Frank....Maybe if you built it in a shadow box and forced the perspective - otherwise you'd need a pingpong table to set it on.
