I am looking for the war diaries of the 15. US MTB-Squadron, especially October 1943. Does anyone have this documents in his collection or can tell me where I can order it (paper-print or 35 mm microfilms)?
Sorry for my bad english.
Many thanks
Greetings from Germany

If you are looking for a rough outline of the squadron's history, you can go here:
http://www.petertare.org/ron15/ron15-1.htm
It's a great write-up on Ron 15 with plenty of things that didn't make it in a squadron diary or the book At Close Quarters.
I also have a small website on my grandfather's service in Ron 15 (with lots of pictures) but all of it is from May 1944 to the decomissioning of the squadron in October of 1944:
www.pistolpackinmama.net
Good luck! Please post back with any success in your search.

Hello. Many thanks for the informations. Just have visited the websites. My Congratulations for your Sites, very good performance! My grandfather died with 26 years when his ship where he was embarked (german auxiliary minelayer JUMINDA ex italian ELBANO GASPERI) was sunk by PT 206, 212 and 216 on 22.October 1943 near isle of Giglio. If you want to learn more about the ship please visit my website www.manfred-krellenberg.de
Do you know where I can get /buy a pin of the famous Ron 15?
Greetings from Lübeck

If you click on "Ship's Store" at the top, there are items for sale by the association. I think the only Ron 15 specific item is a patch of the squadron logo. From all of my grandfather's items left from the war, a reproduction of the squadron patch is the only thing that has the dragon-holding-torpedo artwork.
Thanks for the link - I'm going to check out your site right now!

My German is terrible - but your website is fantastic Krelle! Not only is your research well done, but to have been apart of the ceremony on the Italian destroyer for those sailors who died at sea and to have visited the wreck site of the Juminda is impressive.
The photographs of the wreaths at sunset were beautiful.
Thank you for sharing this with us!
For those who need help (like me) reading the mostly German website, you can use babelfish.altavista.com to translate it. Just put in the web address, choose "German to English" and let it rip.
I tried signing the guestbook Krelle but I received an error. After looking on the site, my comments came twice!

This grandson's tribute to his German Kriegsmarine grandfather is extremely moving and thought-provoking. Duty and destiny made our fathers and grandfathers into mortal enemies; their shared sacrifice is the legacy that now gives us, the children and grandchildren, the common ground of friendship, respect and profound grief.
Thank you, Manfred, for sharing your view of our Father's War-- you certainly opened my eyes and my heart. Jonnie
I'm my father's daughter, honoring all WWII Veterans.
Love you Dad! |
