Mike
The total cost was pretty expensive as Zippo wants a guarentee of a certain number of lighters before they will make them up. Cost's associated with this project were over $900.00. Many wanted to help fund the project, but only a very small amount of people ever came thru with those funds, so it was something I just dropped.

I'd be interested if it was ever brought up again.

Hey Michael - the warranty isn't that it will last forever...just that they'll make it work forever. Just send it back to them and they'll fix the thing free of charge. The Zippo website has the instructions...

I did it about six months ago - I found my great-grandfather's Zippo in a box of my grandfather's things. They replaced the insert and sent the original back (collectors want the original everything, even if it is broken). This only cost me the funds to get it there ($1.00 or something small) and they sent it back at their cost. Whole thing took about two months and was great!

If they give you any trouble about international shipping or such, I'd be happy to be a stateside intermediary for you. Good luck!

I will be going to Bradford, Pa soon (home of Zippo). If I can help any way, let me know. It is my mothers hometown, and her sister is recooping from bypass surgery. I will be driving her there to help out. The Zippo plant is pretty cool, the parking lot street lights are of course little lighters.
