There are some pics of PT-374 and 375 in a Dutch photo archive, not sure if these might be of interest.Pics were taken after the Japanese surrender in Indonesia in 1945. Here's one :

At least some of the pics were taken at Balikpapan in Borneo. The PT-boats in question were in all probability involved in the Battle of Balikpapan . About these PT-boats I found this info on the web:

8 USN PT boats arrived with the tender USS Mobjack on 27 June, and this force was expanded to two PT boat squadrons (10 and 27) on 6 July.

Some more info :

PT Boat report – July 1945

Posted by GP

New Guinea, July 1945

The final invasion of the SW Pacific area was made on 1 July, 1945, when troops of the 7th Australian Division were landed at the oil port of Balikpapan in SW Borneo. The amphibious attack group commander wanted PT boats patrolling the beachs beforehand to prevent the enemy from erecting obstacles.

Accordingly, 4 Pt’s of Squadron 10, 4 from Squadron 27 and the patrol boat tender USS Mobjack, under Lt. Cmdr. Tappaan, were dispatched. They strafed and rocketed the beaches to keep the enemy away.

The Varuna arrived with 8 more PT’s and the task unit was brought to full strength with the arrival of 7 more boats. On the night of 9/10 July, Lt. A.W. Allison’s PT-73 and Lt. C.S, Welsh’s Pt-359 were sent to destroy a reported enemy radar station on Balabalagan Island. The boats did a thorough job of strafing huts and buildings and 130-foot tower, in the face of machine-gun and rifle fire.

When PT boats 163, 167 & 170 returned to the island, they found all enemy equipment destroyed, 6 fresh graves and one dead Japanese soldier.

There are quite a few pics of PT-377 because she was used to take the Japanese vice admiral M. Kamada to HMAS Burdekin. On this ship the surrender of Dutch Borneo was formally signed on 8 September 1945. I read that PT-boats were circling around HMAS Burdekin during this ceremony (as a precaution I assume). The first two pics are rather well-known and have been posted on this board and the navsource site :

Hello Arjan,
I was hoping that you could help me find some info or photos of some Australian troops and US PT Boats that were involved in the Australian invasion of Labuan Island, Brunei Bay, Borneo on June 10, 1945.

The other ship I am involved in restoring, the USS LCI(L) 713 (aka Landing Craft Infantry) was involved in that landing and carried 190 Australian Army personnel (assigned to the Combat Reserve) onto the beach on the morning of June 12. Strangely enough, on the night of 6-11, three different Higgins PT Boats from RON13 (76,83,84) moored alongside and I assume begged for supplies? One stayed overnight. Anyway I have contacted the Australian War Museum and they don't have much info about this that can show me names of the men embarked, or photos of those 3 boats. Here is a little of what I have obtained so far:

Summarized entries from the Deck Log of USS LCI713

6-11-45 1025-1035 PT76 moored to Port Side
6-11-45 1330-1750 PT83 moored to Bow
6-11-45 PT84 moored to port bow, astern of PT83
6-11-45 1750-1803 PT84 repositions to Port side, their bow towards our stern
6-11-45 1803-2400 PT84 moored to port side
6-12-45 0740 PT84 departed
6-12 1030-1105 Beached Brown Beach, unload troops
6-12-45 1135 Anchored at Berth 24 Victoria Harbor
RON13 PT Boats attached to tender USS Willoughby AGP9, anchored in Sugar 15 just 200 yds south east of LCI713.

Here is the make up of the troops embarked

Unit Name # Troops Expanded Meaning of Name
C Tp 2/3 Aust Lt AA #44 C Troop 2/3 Australian Light Anti Aircraft
2/16 Aust Fd Coy #48 2/16 Australian Field Company
2/9 Aust Armd Regt #9 2/9 Australian Armored Regiment
2/9 Aust Armd Regt Sig Tp #4 2/9 Australian Armor Regiment Signals Troop
2/32 Aust Inf Bn #35 2/32 Australian Infantry Battalion (Tobruk rats)
2/13 Aust Fd Amb #28 2/13 Australian Field Ambulance
Det 2/29 Aust Sup Depot Pl #6 2/29 Australian Supply Depot Platoon
Det 2/14 Aust Tpt Pl #8 2/14 Australian Transportation Platoon
Det 2/76 LAD #4 2/76 Light Aid Detachment (repairs vehicles)
BBCAU #4 British Borneo Civil Admin Unit
Total #190

Here are two photos; first a pic of the ships crew posed on the beach at Morotai in front of the open bow doors and ramp, the next photo shows the Aussie Troops heading ashore from the ramps of the LCI713

Here are the Invasion maps, the second is a detail of the lower right hand side of the first one, shows anchorage of LCI713

This shows a photo of our sister ship, LCI712 moored alongside PT143 in Borneo

Thanks for your help!

Hi Jerry, all I have found so far are two well-known pics of PT-82 off Seria near Brunei Bay. I take it you know these two :

Well-known pic of LCI 744 at Labuan Island :

Also there is an interesting video clip you probably know as well :

https://www.shutterstock.com/nl/video/clip-27862651-1940s-battle-brunei-bay-borneo-1945-where

In the Dutch archive there are lots of pics of the Japanese vice admiral Kamada preparing for the surrender ceremony. He's seen in his tent shaving etc. finally he's transported by jeep to the jetty where no doubt a PT-boat is waiting to take him to HMAS Burdekin.

Regards,

Arjan
