Good Day to All
I'm new to this board, so please forgive me if this subject was covered before.
I'm seeking info on my late father's boat, PT 453. It was part of RON 31. My goal is to build an accurate model of his boat. I know it was a 78' Higgins and I have some idea of the armament, but I'd like to know some more detail before I go off half cocked. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your attention.

Greetings,
Well if you don't mind spending some money I would suggest checking out Frank's Misquito Boat Hobbies. He has a 1/20 kit and parts for PT462. It's probably the best kit out there. Maybe the only one for a Higgins boat. Here's a link for you...

Thanks much. I've seen the kit you spoke of, it's a little big for my small place :-) I'm planning on converting the Revell 72nd kit to a Higgins, we'll see how that goes. I was hoping for info/photos of RON 31 boats to see how the 37mm was mounted on the front and to see if there was anything like ammo storage boxes that might be specific to their boats.
Might you have anything like that?

Converting the Revell Elco boat to a Higgins would be awfully difficult. Everything about them is different from the Elco. Revell at one time put out about 1/100 scale Higgins boat but I haven't seen it in many years. You might keep an eye on ebay and see if an old one pops up sometime.
John Haynes is coming out with a Higgins boat but not sure when. It will also be 1/24 scale or close to that. Pretty big. You can also get a 1/350 scale which is pretty small from The Floating Drydock Models.
It would be nice to see a good quality Higgins boat come out on the market. Unfortunately not many choices short of too big and too small.
Good luck
Dave

Too true. I remember the Revell kit you speak of, my Dad built it when he was alive.
I already did a converesion of the Lindberg 32nd scale boat to Dad's Higgins and it was quite the undertaking. Everything from the deck up was scratch built. I know there are differences between the hulls, but it looked "good enough" to me. I gave it to him before he died and it got destroyed in a household accident (a cat knocked it off it's stand). Now I want to do a smaller version for me. However I'm not too sure about some of the details I put on the first model and I thought I'd do some more research before I started again.
Thanks much for your input.
