My Father-in-Law, William F. Jajtner, recently passed away and wanted us to have a Bronze Marker placed on his grave site. We plan on ordering the larger flat Bronze marker. The application form allows for optional inscription space. William was a Carpenter's Mate, Second Class on an Elco in Squadron 33. What do you recommend for the optional inscription to be placed on his Marker and the correct abbreviations? Is there any other info that you would add to his inscription?
Thanks,

I think the most important part is to understand that this man served with Squadron 33 as a Carpenters Mate. This meant he did not serve on an Elco PT BOAT, but probably with the Base Force, or a Tender for the Squadron. You need to work out those details first before you can inscribe a marker. His discharge papers would provide the Squadron and possibly what Base or Tender. He probably would have got his training at Melville with the MTBRTU or Motor Torpedo Boats Squadrons Training Unit. This was a specilized group of men who were put together to maintain the boats in the War Zone. Good luck and take your time, you certainly do not want to make any mistakes in having the marker made.....
