For those who are interested there is a write up about this kit in the February 2023 issue of Airfix Model World. SOUNDS ok, Just not sure there is enough difference between this one and the PT-109 kit to make it interesting to me....but should be available soon to those who want it.

Unfortunately this only models PT-160 during the two weeks of prototype Thunderbolt testing (has the extra two .50 cal) held at Melville prior to her being signed over to the Navy. So not even an operational boat. Not sure why Revell picked such an odd-ball boat to model.

A shame because to upgrade the boat to say a Ron 29 boat like the one I have, you would have to purchase after market parts. So if your going to build it, you have to make it like the box, or pay a hefty sum for the parts you will need.

By the way the 160 boat was an operational boat that served with Ron 9. It did not however carry the Thunderbolt into battle. I have posted the 160 with the Thunderbolt which was taken at Elco, and the 160 in the War Zone

Just to clarify, my non-operational statement refers to this particular kit. In the kit's configuration it was only an Elco company asset, not in it's later operational status with Ron 9 with a stern 20mm mount and the Ron 9 forward turret mounted 20mm. During the tests, it would have flown no Navy Jack, or had a commanding officer, or had a Ron assigned, or recorded an official Navy deck log (only an Elco Naval Division Deck Log). It probably flew the Elco pennant on it's mast during all the tests as well as having the Thunderbolt name painted on the Elco Turret. I also understand the kit does not come with this Thunderbolt decal, so you would need some creative painting in-order to make it an authentic looking model. Elco PT-160 Deck Log from NWC Archives.

Oh Boy Al. Again someone not doing their homework, as anyone buying this kit is pretty much stuck with an out of the box build or spending a great deal for an upgrade as I had mentioned. Maybe one of these days these manufacturers will listen to those of us that want a different kit and produce something that is in demand, like an Elco 77 Footer or a 78 Ft. Higgins. I think Revell only dis this one as they already had the mold for this class boat, and only had to add the Thunderbolt to the kit.
