Another recent bit of info from my latest NARA visit. EPT-616, while assigned to T.U.69.4.2, had two Higgins Rudders installed replacing the three Elco rudders. This was done by NY Portsmouth,VA on 22 October 1946. Various tests were run over the next couple of months. Unfortunately the follow-on logs are missing. Was originally looking to see when the fixed Elco Slipper was removed. Found nothing on that because of missing deck logs.

Andy;
Excellent find! I would love to see the results of the OPTEST with the larger area Higgins rudders. But without the additional log books, we can only imagine that 616 could out turn the average ELCO. Was 616 one of the boats that had the W-100’s installed?
Take care,
TED
