Does anyone have a contact email for Stuart Hurley who did a model of my Dad's boat PT195. I am trying to make a model myself and would love to have his input. Doug

Hi Doug, good to have you here! I'll send Stu an e-mail and let him know you're looking for him.

Did you see the build pages of his wonderful models? If you happen to be making the 1/35th Italeri, his 109 build should also be helpful. He created that one first and goes into more correction details:
PT 109: http://www.pt103.com/Italeri_PT109_Build_Stuart_Hurley.html
PT 195: http://www.pt103.com/Italeri_PT109_PT195_Build_Stuart_Hurley.html

I don't know how nuts you want to go with accuracy but this page has some tips for going overboard on the Italeri kit:

Hi Doug,
Jeff let me know you were trying to contact me. If i can help in any way it would be a pleasure.
If you have any mementos you could show us or information to share with the forum that could shed some light on unanswered questions about the 195, that would be amazing too.
Welcome to the forum and hope to hear from you.

Hi Stuart - your model of PT 195 is amazing!! I won't have nearly the talent to duplicate that. I'm putting the Italeri Model together and using 195 stenciling. This is my first crack at it but I am enjoying it. I hosted a reunion of the crew in 1992 and compiled an oral history of their experience aboard Toodles. I'm happy to send you a copy of what I wrote. I have tried to upload pics of the reunion here but am being told the file is too big. Doug

Doug,
Good to hear from you. Thanks for the kind words about my 195 model.
Glad you are enjoying your modelling experience. I presume you have the Italeri 596 kit. It needs quite a lot
of work to represent the 195 - it depends on how far you want to go with it. I used parts from both the 109 and 596 kits and still ended up scratchbuilding most of it- but if you need any advice i can try to help.
I have had trouble with uploading files in the past, maybe someone here can help with that.

Best Regards,
Stu.

Yes I am using the 596 model - most likely the only resemblance to the 195 will be the stenciling as I lack the ability to fine tune and create like you. I plan on giving the model to my son who I know will take care of it for years to come. Feel free to email me directly ddemar3175@aol.com. I'd be happy to send you the pics I have of the crew and my dad aboard PT195. Doug

Here's a picture of the 195 in Taboga, Panama Canal Zone I just found at the National Archives. Taken in 1943. The man in the suit is Ralph A. Bard, Assistant Secretary of the Navy,

Very nice Charlie, thank you. That's a first for me, the life preserver mounted to the front of the chart house.

Mr Bard looks like a man you wouldn't want to cross.

What is that object behind the officers head?
Jeff, I can't actually find it at the moment, but in the photo of 195 with the mottled paint on the charthouse, the life preserver is mounted there also.

Best Regards,
Stu.
