I built my first PT Boat model in '71 as a young lad, Revell 1/72 & it was a disaster -warped deck & poor molded parts...Fast forward to now - I picked up a 1/24th ProBoat RC 40" PT 109 model that needs some work, mainly a LOT of accurate detailing (which I'm looking forward to).

After reading through topics here on the bridge armor, I still can't decide what do do - detail the model with the armor or the Plexiglas windshield - I'm leaning toward the Plexiglas because its more detail & reveals more of the help etc...

I couldn't make out just when they applied the armor - right after it was deployed at base or some time later - how long did 109 operate with & without it?

Thanks!!

Auto spell correct is a disaster. Leaning towards the plexi windshield to reveal more of the HELM detail.

Welcome Lk!

The windshield wasn't armored, the panel beneath it was on certain boats. The windshield was usually painted. I have some armor details up here: http://www.pt103.com/PT_Boat_Components_Armor.html. I see I call the armor panel windshield armor, that's a poor choice of words... Also the armor can be seen here: http://www.pt103.com/PT_Boat_Components_Bridge_And_Chart_House.html Good luck with your project and have fun!
