My Father was assigned to USS Motor Torpede Boat, Squardon 4 around August 1943 to Dec 1943. I do not know the name of the PT boat that Squardon would have been on. If anyone knows and where the PT boat went during this time I would greatly appreciate letting me know. Thanks in advance

Barb, Squadron 4 was the training squadron that was known as the Motor Torpedo Boat Squadrons Training Center in Rhode Island. This is where hundreds of Officers and Sailors would learn about the operations of the PT BOATS. There were many boats that made up the training center. I have enclosed an over-head shot of the base, and two Elco PT BOATS tied up at the finger pier.

Thank you Frank for responding to my request. It helped me understand more about w the Squardron. Another question, my father, Harry Zieber, was part of Squardron 4 does that mean he was always at the training station and and not sent on other assignments. I greatly appreciate your help.
Ps. Loved the pictures.

Barbara it looks like your Dad enlisted on August 5, 1943 becoming a Seaman 1/c where he was at the Training Base for a while. Looks like he shipped out sometime in the fall of 1944, and was then attached with Squadron 22 where he became a Gunners Mate. He stayed with Ron 22 until roughly November 11, 1945 and took a ship back home. I do not have any information as to what boat he may have been assigned to but Squadron 22 was Higgins PT BOATS that were assigned to the Mediterranean, based at Bastia, Corsica, and St. Tropez, France, and had action along the northwest coast of Italy and southern coast of France. Here is what a Higgins PT BOAT looked like

Frank.
WOW. Love all the information you sent me. It really helped me get a good idea of what my father was part of. I have to tell you Harry Zieber was my birth father and I never met him. He was not even aware that he had a daughter. I just found out his name and trying to find out anything about him and this gives me a better picture of the man he was. Thank you so much. This is all so interesting. 🇺🇸
