PT- 216 on February 18, 1944 were engaged in the rescue of survivors from the British Cruiser Pennelope after she sank from an underwater explosion. This would explain the entry under Sea Rescue. In fact one of those crewmen, William Moen MoMM1 was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps medal for this action when he and 2 others jumped overboard to rescue 7 of the survivors. I have the citation and the medal that was donated by his family. Dec 31 being a rescue mission, outside of Bastia harbor, for a mined British LST and a Minesweep. 20- foot seas and gale force winds. Feb 1, the 216 was in the Naples/Anzio area, and they picked up a Spitfire pilot whose plane developed engine troubles. These missions are explained here and those dates appear to the right of the boats mascot
