Thanks Jerry and Jeff.
That was a pretty wild tour. Loved every minute of it. I think the wife loved it too, mainly because none of her girlfriends can say they've pointed a 20mm Oerlikon at their husbands before.
I am still haunted by that trash can. I was going for the hastily-hand-painted look, and have been wanting to redo it better, ever since.

You may have seen this already, but this was listed in the German navy archives as a source for the action.
https://www.squadron34.com/pt509
The site authors have taken the time to put together a timeline from the war diaries, and there is a youtube video as well, which I am about to watch.
The link came from here, which is the German naval archives and is in German. I am stuck with google translate, but there is a very brief mention of the combat action with the 509.
https://www.historisches-marinearchiv.de/projekte/minensucher/ausgabe.php?where_value=1951
And here is the minesweeper page, which links the archive above with the M 4626.
https://historisches-marinearchiv.de/projekte/minensucher/beschreibung.php?site=37&var1=wert1&var2=wert2
As far as I've explored so far, these sites have been free. I haven't encountered any paywalls or anything, thus far.

Thank all of you for the additional information. I was aware of the monument on Jersey Island. I recently purchased your books Frank and my mother has enjoyed looking at them. I tried uploaded a picture of Tony but I guess the file was too large. I'll try to make adjustment and get some of my photos uploaded soon. I did upload one of the actual wreck of 509 on the sea floor that I found recently. There are pictures from a museum on Jersey island of artifacts brought up from the wreck some years ago.
