Hello to all....I appreciate the website you guys have developed and maintained here - finding helpful info isn't as easy as I thought it would be. I'm new to the website and haven't perused everything, but I intend to.

To business:

I need to locate (company or individual) someone I can commission to build (all new materials) a FULL size, FULLY functional PT boat.

-PT Model to replicate has not been determined and is under discussion.
-Minor to semi-major changes to interior design will be needed.
-Propulsion system will NOT be this builder's concern.
-All materials will be provided and delivered where necessary.
-Transportation for finished product will be handled.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Ahoy there-

This is just a thought! I live here in beautiful Jacksonville Florida! It is the home of Huckins Boat and Yachts. I have most recently taken a tour of their facility located on the Ortega River with my ship model club and found it to be most enjoyable. This is the very same company that built the Huckins PT during the Second World War. I'm sure that they would be most happy to assist you in the building of a full size PT. While on our club tour we were shown the actual plans that were used for the building of the Huckins PT's.(I had to restrain myself from drooling all over those very pretty plan sets!) If you are looking for a PT full size boat I would look no further than the Huckins Yacht Company as a starting point of reference and go from there. They are still building huge yachts utilizing the same PT boat lines from the original PT boat hulls of the 40's. Like I said this is just a thought! Good luck and good hunting! We would all like to see the finished product when completed!

Exellent! That is JUST the kind of contacts I'm needing! THANK YOU

I'll start with your reference, sir. Others, please feel free to share any other possible contacts.

I was a bit "rushed" earlier so I'll share some more intel:

-Contractor must be able to coordinate with other parties for installation of electrical wiring and fire suppression systems during the construction process.
-The fuel storage system will have to be expanded
-All steel construction required
-The addition of and reinforcement of "armor" in key areas will be needed and coordinated with other parties.
-Painting of the craft will NOT be the the responsibility of the contractor.

-Private individuals must have references and examples of past works, and consent to a background check (including associates, immediate family members, and any individuals in which housing is shared).
-Project details are required to be confidential; some intel will NOT be shared. Contractor must be capable and "hospitable" to the idea of working with limited knowledge of SOME design applications.
-Engineering credentials desired - the ability to thoroughly interpret, comprehend, apply, and construct design plans will have to be demonstrated.

Sharing the final product with everyone (minus some minor details) will be my pleasure! It will just have to be AFTER the completion of the craft - as discretion/secrecy will not be necessary after completion (only during construction). And I'm sure that construction of most of the craft can be shared via photos throughout the process (each photo will just have to be "approved").

All, forget the formal mumbo-jumbo writing format. Hey, I'm an easy-going ambitious guy and I'm just new here. I have a big idea, a big dream, I know what I want, I'm going after it, and I need some help finding people to build a boat for me.

This will be an ALL AMERICAN endeavor! No foreign contractors, please. I'm a proud and loyal American...its my money...I reserve the right to lay out that kind of restriction ;O)

Thank you

Jacob

Give Keith Otis a call. He is a Maine boatbuilder and has been running an ad in "Maine Coastal News" for several years offering to build an 80' ELCO.

A fax machine picked up when I dialed the number listed above.

He wouldn't happen to visit these forums, would he? If you're acquainted with him, perhaps you could let him know about the posts I've made.

JACOB;
I'VE ONLY DONE A SHORT SEARCH ON-LINE LOOKING FOR BOAT/YACHT BUILDERS CAPABILE OF TAKING A 77-80 FOOTER.
THERE ARE TWO THAT GIVE THE IMPRESSION OF NOT BEING TOO PRICEY, YET DISPLAY A ' PRIDE IN CRAFTSMANSHIP'.
LYMAN MORSE BOAT BUILDING IN THOMASTON, MAINE WHO USES WOOD CONSTRUCTION.
MAGNUM MARINE IN MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA WHO USES COMPOSITE CONSTRUCTION.
SINCE YOU WANT STEEL, I'LL LOOK IN THAT DIRECTION.
FOR MY TWO CENTS WORTH, I'D GO WITH THE ELCO 80' BOAT.
THERES A RUNNING HIGGINS 78' BOAT RESTORATION IN OREGON. A DISPLAYED HIGGINS IN FREDRICKSBURG. TEXAS AND ONE EACH IN FALL RIVER, MASS.

Thanks Steve.

Why would you build the '80 Elco?

I'm still discussing the model we should use with my associates - so I'm up for hearing your opinions on the model you'd like to see. This isn't a project I'm rushing so there is time....my philosophy is "correctly, not quickly".

The boat will be expected to take small arms fire as well as RPG's and anything else you'd might expect from small groups of rebels. I have to remember that even though this is a private endeavor, it doesn't make it 'make believe'. I have to plan for that, and so a wooden hull just doesn't sound like what I'd want protecting me or my mates.

This is what it amounts to: I'm going to have this boat built, a crew picked and trained, and this boat is hitting the water running and gunning. And whether I like it or not, you'll probably read about it in newspapers and maybe even see it on a cable special.

And, of course, I want nothing but the best equipment!

I've got a question for you guys:
If you were thrown in a boat and told to protect "that" no matter what, which boat would you hope to be in and what equipment would you want?
