Hello, all!

Thanks for accepting me. I'm new to this forum but was wondering if anyone may be able to help me find anything that may pertain to my great-grandfather, LeRoy Morrow. Unfortunately, the passage of time hasn't left me with much. Only two photos and some muster roll records. But, I figured it'd be better to try something, so here I am!

What I do have are the following approximate dates, assignments, and ranks:

10 September 1942, RON 2, BM2c - Rec from Comdt. 15th Naval District.

06 April 1943, USS Algorab, BM1c - From Tulagi, Florida Island to Sea. Transportation to MTB Training Center, R.I.

17 June 1943, RON 4, CBM

03 April 1944, RON 36, CBM

15 April 1945, PT Advanced Unit 6 (?), CBM - Rec from MTB Squadron THIRTY-SIX.

Additionally, the last thing I was able to find is that he was apparently awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for "...heroic conduct when Japanese planes dropped bombs near his Motor Torpedo Boat base at Tulagi, on the night of 5 March 1943, killing or injuring all officers. Boatswain's Mate First Class Morrow took charge of the remaining personnel and directed the efforts of his comrades in extinguishing the fires, thereby contributing to the saving of the base." I found this in the December 1943 issue of 'All Hands'.

Unfortunately, this is all I really have to work with. Any documents or other physical mementos have been lost to the annals of time.

If anyone here as any information that might include my great-grandfather or even information that could relate to his assignments or really any information at all, I would be extremely grateful! It would be a dream to be able to pin him to at least one boat specifically but I will gladly take all that I can get!

Thank you, all! Look forward to learning what I can!

Welcome aboard Aaron, I hope members can help you in your search.

Probably not much help, but here are the results of a simple search through multiple publications at my disposal.

At Close Quarter, a book by Robert J. Bulkley, Jr, Published by Naval History Division
One listing, see page 503:
MORROW, LEROY C., BM1c, USNR, Awarded Navy & Marine Corp Medal.

Knights of the Sea, a book published by PT Boats, Inc.,
No mention or listing for Leroy Morrow.

Give Alyce from PT Boats INC a call to see if your Great Grandfather was a member and if he was she should be able to tell you what boat he served on. You can make a request at the national archives for the separation papers your Great Grandfather would have received when he left the Navy. I also use fold3.com for research as well. I did a quick search and found a muster roll of the crew for RON 36 from December 1944. If you need anymore help my email is in my profile.
