I am with the USS Mispillion AO 105 reunion association. We are looking for the dates of birth and the dates of death for Jack E. Gibson for our deceased shipmate list. He was the commanding officer of our ship in the early 1960's. We understand that he was in the PT boats in WWII. All we know is that he retired from the Navy as a Captain in the early 1960's and that he was commander of a PT boat squadron in WWII. Any info is helpful and appreciated. Thanks, Steve Dengler, sec/treas, USS Mispillion Shipmate Reunion Association.

About 2 and half years ago, I got a call from a guy in Northern California who said he had something from our ship. It was a plaque and it had the USS Mispillion crest on it and below that was the inscription: To Captain Jack E Gibson from the officers and men of the USS Mispillion AO 105 we wish you smooth sailing and fair winds. That man (Steve Carlson) came to our 2005 reunion in San Francisco and gave us the plaque, which we donated to the Milford museum in Milford, Delaware. The Mispillion was named after the Mispillion river, which flows through Milford. Mr Carlson said that he was neighbors with Mr and Mrs Gibson for several years. When Mr Gibson passed away, Mrs Gibson gave Mr Carlson some boxes to store in his garage as she was moving to a retirement home. After her passing, he opened the boxes and found some of Mr Gibson's navy memorbilia. He then contacted the Gibson children, who did not want any of the memorbilia. Hence, he gave us the plaque. He said at that time that he still had some of Mr Gibson's stuff. If I can find him again, I will let you know.

I just got off the phone with Mr Steve Carlson of Cardoza, California. He was neighbors with Captain Jack Gibson. He said that Mrs Gibson is still alive and is about 93 or 94 years old. He said Jack passed away around 10 years ago. Mrs Gibson is in a retirement home. He said the only thing he has of Captain Gibson's is an oar signed by Admiral Chester Nimitz. He said he has been in contact twice with the Nimitz museum in Fredricksburg, Texas to see if they wanted the oar. He said that they have never contacted him back. He said that Mrs Gibson has a nice 8 x 10 photo of the Captain and he will try to get me a copy. I will make a copy and send to you guys if you want. Don't know when he will get it, but will let you know as soon as I get it. You guys have a very nice website. If you get a chance, check out the Mispillion website. www.ussmispillion.com Thanks, Steve
