Revell Germany will release a 1/72 late war Elco as PT-160 (if the photos are to be believed) as well as PT-559 which may include the Thunderbolt turret on the stern. No details yet and I suspect it may be late in the year before they materialize.

This combination makes no sense, as the boats are from two different series with major differences in their configurations.

I can only guess since I have no conversations with Revell. I can only suspect (but don't know) that the 160 will be based on their previously released 109 kit with roll off's, radar, 37mm, etc.? Maybe? And I'm guessing the 559 boat will be based on their previously released 579/588 kits, and I'm guessing that they will add the Thunderbolt. That of course is only a guess. Time will tell what comes of these releases. I do hope they get some good advice.

Seems interesting, wonder how much difference from the "New 1-09" it will be?

No idea. Previous attempts to contact Revell have not worked. There are details I'm not sure they will pick up on so I hope whomever they are working with will give them some good guidance.

Well, Revell screwed up royally. They show a first series boat with tubes and the experimental 6 barrel THUNDERBOLT as PT559.

The model as shown only applies to PT 160 (and possibly PT 138), but definitely not PT 559.

Al, thanks for the great drawings. I can see how Revell got it wrong as photos of what I assume is PT-160 are labeled as PT-559 on several internet sites including Navsource and HyperWar. But you're right, they should have done a better job of researching this. Doing a kit of a test platform doesn't make sense. I would have liked to have seen them do an Atlantic/Med version of this model which they could have easily done with their 579/588 kit and a few modifications. A little research would have provided the information for the deployed Thunderbolt gun system.
I wrote Revell, but frankly I don't expect a reply. If anyone has their ear please write them and make them aware of their error.
