I don’t recall who posted the question, but someone here did. They asked if anyone knew anything about a PT Boat that was at Shellbank Basin, in Howard Beach, Queens NY. I don’t know any details about it, other than as much younger kid, I remember this PT Boat as well. I was always intrigued by it. As to its fate, I really have no idea, except to say that it was moored at the very north dead end of Shellback basin, just south of 157th Avenue, east of Cross Bay Blvd in Howard Beach. I hope whoever made this original post will be able to learn more.

JC;
Welcome! Do you remember the look of the boat? Describe it.
Do you remember the colors?
There were several “Ex-PT Boats” that worked out of Sheepshead Bay, Freeport, Seaford, and further out on Long Island .
Take care,
TED

Hi all, Lew here (Florida),
I don't remember if I originally posted this several years back or just made a reply. But anyway, here is whet I remember about this boat.
For several years (early/mid 1950's) our family used to go to Rockaway Beach, a couple of times each summer. During several of those "road trips" I remember what I thought was a PT boat on the east side of the roadway. At first it seems to have had not much on the deck. The there was a plywood superstructure added. I remember what looked to be (almost?) full sheets, uncut, in place with the whitish color of the plywood standing out in the summer sun.
That's about it. I don't remember if it was still there on future trips nor how long it was there,
In looking at the Map (I have not been back to NY since 1977) this boat would have been at the north end of "Shellbank Basin" on the side furthest away from the road (Cross Bay Blvd).
Hope this helps.
