Hi All,

I received a message from Weflord West's (Torpedoman, PT-157, Solomon Islands) nephew about a pin he came across. He message below and his question if this was a known lapel pin from that era?

I thought I would share a picture of it with you. Ironic that it has an oversized suspended torpedo attached to a small chain. A definite homage to Uncle Welford. There is a pin in the back of the PT Boat so you can wear it on a lapel.
Have you ever seen one like it?

It's what they call a sweetheart pin. Buy them at the Ship's store or other commercial stores and they would be worn by wives, sweethearts or mothers.

I remember my father (PT-352) showed me a pin like that, but without the torpedo below it. That must have been back in the late '60s. No idea whatever happened to it.

It looks to me like somebody took a standard Elco PT Tie Clip Pin and added the torpedo to it. I have never seen any others that have that torpedo added to them. pretty cool item!

In my dealing with the PT VETS that served as torpedomen, the pin was sold at Melville. Many of the guys I spoke with said they added the little torpedo on the chain as an afterthought. I have never seen any of the pins sold with the attachments like this

It would be nice to see the back side, especially, the torpedo.
