Certainly very nice drawings and crucial to those that want to learn more about the different Elco Designs. Color added so important and will help those that not only want to know about the way the boats were painted but for those that research to build models

Thanks Al, nice work! I particularly like seeing the 70, 77, and 80 boats together for an excellent comparison of size differences.

Al Ross and I discussed the color scheme for the 103 class Elco boats. Confusing because in looking at the PT-103 at the launching ceremonies she does not look to be dark in color on her upper cabin structures as depicted in Al's color drawings. I knew I had a photo somewhere the proves these colors, but could not find it yesterday. Today i did some digging in my files and sure enough found those colors used for PT-129.

I had this shot of the 103 that looks to be the same color scheme as your shot of the 129. Probably:
Dark Gray 5-D on the deck and topsides
Navy Gray #5 on the hull
Note the lack of mufflers:

The tubes should be 5D and the smoke generator facing aft.

My favorite paint scheme. I just like the way it looks. I wonder why the original mast didn't continue? Also curious about the rigid signal flags. Juliet, Golf, Juliet? What is t he significance of that?
Thanks for the great drawings, Al.

Nice work Al, as always . . . . Looooking gooood!
As I was looking at the drawings, then comparing it to the photo image Frankie uploaded, as regards to color scheme. I notice that boat PT 129 in the photo was painted differently than I had noticed before on other photos of early 80-foot Elco boats. If you look at the front of the 129 boat, the upper deck 5D color extends down from the deck and onto the rub strip and gunwale. It finishes with a curved down painted area to the front edge of the bow. Below I’ve posted several early Elco boat images, that surely stole from around the internet over all these years. Out of all the images of the 103, 117 and the 129, only the 129 shows this paint variant.
INTERESTING . . .
Also, I noticed on the drawing of the early Elco 77-foot boat (your dad’s PT 34) it missing the Lewis guns. I only say this because there was a discussion a few posts back, about the Lewis guns, and you reminisce about your dad having used them on the 34 boat. I also thought, maybe they are missing because this was a later configuration, but the Turret Domes were still attached. Also hat wouldn’t be so, because the 34 had a very short life, unlike your dad who by Gods good grace lived through the Bataan March and the POW camps of the Philippines.

I think I will go full LT on you Dick... I fully agree about the 5D on the rub rai and will correctl. Re: Lewis guns - they appear to have been fitted sometime between completion and shipment. Note that the trials photos for 20, 32, & 33 do not have them. They are on the boats in the tanker photos.
