I just returned from a weekend visit to the 1000 island region of New York. There is the antique boat museum there. https://www.abm.org/ ... A lot of amazing boats there, very fast looking and beautiful wood designs...
The old but gleaming wooden speedboats there on display are just magnificent.

Many of them look to me like scaled-down versions of the PT boats I have seen in films, and at Fall River, Massachusetts.

I am curious to know if there is any connection between these New York 1000 Island/ St. Lawrence seaway pleasure and speed boats -- and the PT boats. there is often a striking resemblance, altho the PT boats are bigger of course. Somewhere , sometime, a long time ago, I thought I remembered reading that IN FACT, PT boat design DID rely heavily on the boats designed for speedboating in the St Lawrence Seaway in the New York State 1000 island region. Any information on that out there ?

Any thoughts or collective knowledge on this greatly appreciated !!

I have not heard of that 1000 island region specifically as being instrumental in the design and development of PT Boats. However, I strongly recommend that you go to the Documents section of this website and FOR FREE download the Book called "An Administrative History of PT Boats". It goes into excruciating detail of exactly when where what and who was involved in the original design and development of the US Navy PT Boats. After you read through that book, if you still have any questions feel free to ask back on the forum. Good Luck in your search!
