HELLO EVERYBODY-
I NEED THE REAL DEAL SCOOP ON RON 10 ZEBRA STRIPE BOATS! WERE "ALL" OF THE RON 10 BOATS PAINTED IN ZEBRA STRIPES AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER?
I HAVE READ THAT ON THE BOATS WITH THE BLACK AND WHITE STRIPES, THE WHITE STRIPES WERE PAINTED OVER GREEN.
I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM RON-10 VETS, HISTORIANS, REGARDING THIS IF THERE ARE ANY OUT THERE.
I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO KNOW IF THIS PATTERN WAS SUCCESSFUL-PRO AND CON !
I HAVE PICTURES OF THE RON 10 PT 169 BOAT IN ZEBRA STRIPES AND WITHOUT! WHAT'S THE DEAL???

Hello Frank
Through my research for building my PT174 Zebra striped I have found that at one time the boats of Ron 10 were painted in the Black/White stripes. I also found that the boats had the White stripes repainted in a Yellow/Green colour once it was posted to the Pacific.
Some of the Guy's that helped me out with picture's of the Zebra striped boats are members of this site. You might want to try contacting.
Will Day , Ed B & Ted Walther plus there a others that helped.
Can't remeber the Ron number but there was also a Ron sent to the Med thathad there boats striped in this scheme.
As far as the scheme being effective for camoflage I think that it was probably quite good from a distance but there seems to be the opinoin that it took longer to apply & keep looking good which out weigh it's effectiveness. Some of the Vet's will know more on that score than me.

Frank: Ron 15 in the Med experimented with a zebra "Adapter" scheme.
The ship's store at PTBI did sell a video with brief shots of a Ron 10 boat wearing stripes.
On the whole, the scheme was found to be ineffective, and did not progress much beyond the experimental phase.

AHOY THERE WILL AND MUDDY FIELDS-
THANK YOU FOR THE INPUT ON THE RON 10 'ZEBRAS'! I'M STILL TRYING TO FIGURE OUT IF THE PATTERN WAS ON THE BOATS UNTIL THE WAR WAS OVER IN THE PACIFIC.
I ALSO READ SOMEWHERE THAT IF A ZEBRA BOAT CAME IN ALL SHOT UP THE FIRST ORDER WAS TO REQUISTION A 55 GALLON DRUM OF OD GREEN AND A DOZEN MOPS AND PAINT THE WHOLE BOAT GREEN AS IT TOOK FOREVER TO RE-STRIPE THE BOAT. ANY TRUTH TO THIS MATTER??? COULD THIS BE WHY PHOTOS EXIST OF RON 10 BOATS WITH AND WITHOUT STRIPES? ANYONE CAN TO ADD THEIR INPUT ON THIS??
MANY THANKS GUYS!

Between November-December 1943(because at home I have a aerial photo of PT 171 underway OCT8 1943 and she has green deck and zebra hull) when RON 10 left Rendova/Bau Island and moved up to Green Island. By this time all RON 10 boats were painted green, (for modelers; field green in testors paints)
Take care,
TED

Hi Ya Ted-
Perhaps you wouldn't mind sharing that photo of the 171 out of RON -10 with all of us if you can? I'd love to add it to my collection of RON-10 stuff.
Thank you so much for the input! Did you model any RON-10 boats, Ted! Love to see your work besides!
