I know my dad was stationed at MTBB #7 around 1943 - 1944 and then to MTBB #16 in 1945. I have been trying to find out which squadron were stationed at those bases. I have tried everything I can think of, so if someone has some recommendations that would be great.

Thank you.

Mike

Mike, my father participated in the Bougainville - Truk campaign. the #7 and #16 bases were near this campaign if i understand my records correctly. my father's Ron was #20. that ron may have very well been stationed at those bases for a time. there may be others on the forum that know for sure. if i'm wrong about this i don't mind being corrected. welcome to the forum great place for find correct info. regards Scott

From "Mosquito Bites", Task Unit 70.8.5 was at Green Island in 1944, which consisted of Base 7, MTB RONs 6 and 28, the tender USS Varuna (AGP-5), and a group of PGMs and LCI(G) gunboats.

TU 70.8.11 was the base at Emirau Island. I couldn't find anything in the War Diaries indicating any RONs were assigned there in 1945. Of course by then Rabaul had been completely bypassed and isolated, so PT boat patrols against Rabaul may have ended by then.

Thanks to you all for your replies. It looks like I have my home work assignment and something to keep me out of trouble for a little while.

Thanks again to you all.
