Finally got the PT-61 back in the water. This was the first time I used a small camera (RunCam 2) to catch some on-board video. Here is the link: https://youtu.be/WETa_834Ce8.

Pretty cool Lew, the video was very smooth. Does the camera have some kind of anti-shake mount? I like your boat lift, very clever!

I forgot how "armed to the teeth" your beautiful model is. Impressive!

Jeff,

No, the camera was just fastened down with some shims and rubber bands to keep it in place (and from falling off into the water). The Runcam 2 camera had surprisingly good video, better than my much more expensive GoPro. The Runcam 2 is basically used for drones. Sound quality is pretty bad although.

As for the launcher, this is my fourth generation launcher. It handles everything from my smallest (1/35 scale LCM - ~18) up to the 61 at 16-1/2 pounds. Unlike the other launchers, it can sit on the ground with the boat in it as it keeps the hull raised so the props and rudder do not get damaged. Even handles odd shaped hulls like our Springer tugs and my rounded bilge British trawler fit well.

I'll try to get more videos soon (we meet twice a month), with different views - just need a camera chase boat fast enough. My son finally got the 1/20 scale PT-109 in hand, so that is a good possibility.

Pretty neat, Lew.

I liked the steel band music, too -reminded me of St. Thomas, my home from 1965-1976.

Really nice video footage Lew! I might get myself one of these cameras too. I also like the design of your launcher. I built a medieval rc Patrol Boat last year. It's pretty much a fair weather raider :

Wow Arjan, did you paint the figures? Always wanted to build one of those, but with working oars. Not sure if I will get the courage up to tackle all the moving parts.

Hi, I know the Longboat models with working oars from the internet. I think they are slightly bigger than my 1/25 Billing Boats model. The BB model is probably a bit too small for the necessary mechanical components.

The 1/24 resin figures are from Aliexpress and I painted them myself. The helmsman required some additional conversion work.

My model has a conventional working rudder and an underwater motor :

Arjan

LOL Arjan, very cool! Did you do all the carvings on the stem and stern? I like the hidden electric motor.

Those are some nicely detailed figures and your painting of them superb. Thanks for sharing this unique project.

Thanks Jeff ! No, the laser cut scroll parts are supplied in the kit. It's not a difficult kit to build but constructing the shields and oars is a very repetitive and boring job .

Hah I bet it was, and then painting all the shields. I think you did a great job on her!

When I was about 14 I begged my parents for a Christmas present of a Billings Hjellen I had been drooling over at the local hobby shop. It was a sleek side wheeler passenger boat. Be careful what you ask for applied. The box contents were pretty much just strips of wood for the planking and many benches, and sheets of printed wood. It took me about 5 years to get it done. Especialy hard was cutting out all the bench supports with their spindly legs and back supports. It came out OK all things considered and I finished it with mixed feelings of pride and relief.
