Here's the original scan Travis sent me (thank you!), and with it doubled in size. It could be either a 6 or 8 but I'd go with a 6. The upper loop looks like it is narrower at the top right and ends before hitting the bottom one. But my vision isn't the best:

After some research, I vote for PT 163 RON 10. LTjg Roger Jones was the CO, there are several photos of the boat and crew at Morotai, Sept-Dec 1944, in his book "PT Boat Episodes". It can probably be found on Ebay. By the way, this is the only boat I have read of that had 4 officers onboard at one time: LTjg Roger M. Jones CO(Relieved on Dec 14, 1944 at Morotai, by Parks. Jones returned to Melville as RON 4 PT 316 CO, later RON 41 PT 603 CO), ENS Robert Kane XO/EXEC(Later LTjg and CO of PT 171), LTjg Eugene Halvorson 3rd Off(later CO of PT 170), ENS Al Parks 4th Off.(later became XO/EXEC and later CO of PT 163).

Take care,
TED
