Topic: Italeri Higgins project is NOT dead |

Hi all,
I heard back from my contact at Italeri. He advised that the project is not dead, only postponed. He has not been told to delete or archive his work on this project. He explained that the situation is as before, only delayed.
If you're interested in seeing this kit brought to market I would suggest going to the Italeri web site and expressing politely your interest in this model and hope they decide to release this kit.

That is a good wish, but I doubt it for the 77'. Italieri at least has a completed prototype Higgins(I think), Dave did they show the Higgins at the German toy festival a year or two ago? So, if we see the Higgins show up, consider it a miracle. Especially, since all these companies are consolidating or being sold.

I agree Ted. I think a 77' Elco is a long shot. That said I believe that Dick sent them a lot of information about it. I suggested PT-59 because of the JFK connection. But they chose the Higgins route. I think the Higgins boat has broader appeal, especially for European modelers.
As far as I know they have not started any new work on this project. They certainly have not made any molds.
Hopefully now that Italeri's network is more stable this one will come back again.
It might not hurt to write Trumpeter and Revell Germany and express interest in a 1/48 and 1/72 scale 77' boat respectively. Revell has had great success with their Elco releases and Trumpeter I think did well with their Elco releases.

Thanks, Ted and David, for the input about the 77 ft. Elco. I guess the idea isn't in the best interest of the mold makers. Europe is the market and the items they want sell. I'll e-mail Revell Germany and see what they have to say. Can't hurt.

I would guess that European modelers would prefer the Higgins since they have a fighting history there. I'd also guess that carving a Higgins mold would be considerably easier than an Elco 77 with its complex cabin shape. And there are better references for the Higgins especially with Al's recent research and excellent drawings.
That sounds like a good idea Bill, I'd love to see a decent kit of an Elco 77 too!
