One of the things that pretty much goes without much description is the Mobile Field Unit of Elco. Doing research there is really nothing out there about it except pieces here and there. In discussions with friends of mine that are well versed in the History of PT Boats, they can't really find anything as well. I have enclosed a photo of my original MFU emblem that was donated by Elco employee Charles Waller. Any information would be appreciated.

What were their responsibilities? Did they operate out of the bases?

It is possible that the Mobile Field Unit was going to have several units as one. Kind of an umbrella of services to include the FEMU Units, and the RTU units, and Mobile Torpedo Units, but this is just a guess. In all my years of talking with PT VETS, which has been well over 40 years, I have never met anyone that siad they were attached to the Mobile Field Unit.
