That's a couple of skiffs I've seen with "nicknames". I wonder how widespread the practice was?

The same with guns, occasionally you see them named. Photo from http://pt127.org/:

Jeff;
I too have seen a few, but this one, on the 150, is the best....so far
Rumsey Ewing's second boat PT 599 (Katcha Maru) RON 40 had their dingy named Katcha Maru Jr.
Take care,
TED

That's an interesting name, do you have any idea of its significance? I though the first name might have been a play on "Catch a" but the last name doesn't ring any bells.

The word Maru was used for small Japanese transport ships. It roughly translates to " "a small world unto it's own." On a funny side note, the men of the USS Colorado who became board with escorting transport ships for the different invasions, and shore bombardment, nick named their ship The Colo Maru!

So maybe "Catch A Troop Transport", thanks Stearman.
Cool image Ted. Those towers drive modelers nuts!

Yes, beautiful photo Ted! I thought of building an RC model of her years ago, but those hour glass mast. The Colorado and the Maryland "Fighting Marry" kept their forward cage mast right to the end!
