I thought in honor of the recent passing of the old “McHale's Navy" TV show's Tim Conway, who played the bumbling Ensign Charles "Chuck" Parker, the show's "PT 73" exec, I’d post these two color pictures of the Vosper MTB and the (more or less) full-sized prop that "played" PT 73" in the show on the Forum.

The first is a nice shot of the boat at speed at sea from the 1964 theatrical film, the horse on the foredeck an Australian race horse rescued by McHale and his crew that figures in the plot of the film.

The second is the forepart of the prop boat, crashed into the dock in Universal Studio's lagoon.

Many of us baby-boomers watched this early-1960s show, which was obviously something of a roundabout, comic reference to the WWII PTs in which  the recently-elected President served, and remember it fondly, especially the shots of the Vosper at sea.  Since several of our real PT veterans have remarked, with tongue-in-cheek, that their WWII PT service "was like 'McHale's Navy'," I thought it would be appropriate.

Drew;
Gavin McLeod (Seaman 3/C Joseph "Happy" Haines) and Yoshio James Yoda(Seaman 3/C Fuji Kobiaji IJN) are the two surviving cast members.
Take care,
TED

Funny how TV shows of the time that were pretty inaccurate, could leave many of us with a life time interest in the real subject! Mchale's Navy was one for me. Davy Crockett and Danial Boone left me with a life long interest in Flintlock firearms. On a funny side note, I just read that a large part of the TV viewing public back then thought that Fuji's catch phrase, oy vey was a Japanese phrase!

As a slightly per-boomer (March 1944) I too enjoyed McHale's Navy. It sparked my interest in PT Boats and remberances of when I was a kid growing up in NY and seeing what was probably a PT Boat being modified on our way to Jones' Beach for several years. There was something about growing up after WWII and the TV programs years back that portrayed the American Heroes from that era.
A big thanks to those that have created this forum and those that continue contribute to it.
And RIP Tim. You made America smile!
